ABOUT
Curators’ relationship with artists and art critics is often ambiguous as their roles may continue to switch between the leader and the follower, the main and the supporting characters, the labelling and the labelled ones. Such roles also imply the power relations in the art sector. This project aims to extend Coexist Exhibition’s 2020 curatorial project at Tainan Art Museum, Survival of the Exceptional, leveraging the process of “collaborative writing” between art critics, curators, and artists to help them understand the perspectives of one another as they “archived” each other’s contribution during the process. This project tries to dismiss the purpose of “exhibitions”, which is “to display”, and concentrates on the ways to initiate conversation within and outside the framework of artworks.
The True Reader in Blind Area project intends to explore the different social and cultural experiences involved in creating art about gender in different countries and contexts. Through various forms of writings and dialogues these artists, curators, and art critics have, the project tries to not only build a side track helping people to access the discussion on these issues but also establish a platform facilitating international exchange during the pandemic.
